Aeorponics is best for growing the plants because the roots get more oxygen. Hydroponics would be next with ebb and flow probably most efficient. The tomato plants in my ebb and flow system grew more than 3 times faster than plants in very good soil and the soil plants got about 3 hours extra light. Aquaponics is good if you want to raise some fish but it isn't worth the trouble if you ask me. Soil is great but if you need to maximize water use or have poor soil, hydroponics is very simple to use. The only really tricky part is getting the pH right. Setting up pumps doesn't require a rocket scientist.

Normal soil is always best. But since some people live in places where ground planting is impossible or close to it, the other methods are adapted. Although if you were to get into a landscaping project, it would be interesting to use these various methods. [http://www.ptlandscapeinc.com/]

Hydroponics is much more interesting and challenging than regular dirt. Go for the fun one.

Unless you live in a penthouse and hauling dirt up 30 stories would be difficult, go with the dirt.
