Why are the lower leaves on my tomatoes turning yellow and what can i do?

otherwise healthy looking plants except for the yellow leaves towards the bottom

That is normal. The lower leaves turn yellow and they need to be cut off. It is not good to let water splash on the leaves because it can cause bacteria to grow on them. Some mulch on the soil can prevent the splashing.

Are they getting enough sun? If not, then that is why they are turning yellow. If the tomato palnts flower and form tomatoes without dropping them, then they are OK.

bring a leaf into home depot or other gardening store and ask them if you have a fungus
