Tomato PLANTS are turning yellow...?

Postby ash » February 22nd, 2013, 10:15 pm

We have recently bought a patio tomato, we have been watering it every night and leaving it out in the sun during the day. It has been sprayed for bugs with appropriate spray. We also used miracle grow. I am not sure what we are doing wrong. We water is usually around 7:30 pm.

Your plant is drowning.
Stop watering every night.

Water when the top two inches of soil are dry to the touch.

Tomatoes don't care for high power fertilizers
Some MiracleGro formulations are much too strong.
5-10-5...5-10-10...or something close is good.

Fertilize when the 1st fruits set.

Tomato PLANTS are turning yellow...?

Hi Kendra

You may be literally smothering your plant with kindness. You should only water your tomato plant when a finger inserted into the soil about two inches doesn't feel moist.

Keeping a plant water logged drives the oxygen from the soil and plants require oxygen as well as food and water.

I hope this helps

if its yellow spots on leaves, it could be lack of iron in the soil. there are treatments for this applied directly on leaves.
