My potatoe is depressed?

I'm an avid gardener, and I read to my vegetables every day after work. But recently, while my tomatoes have been self-concious, my potatoes have been plain depressed; Are they just going through a phase (they're in their adolscent growth period) or is it because he is aware of his impending doom at my dinner table? Please give me a solution. Thanks.

P.S: The radishes are getting cocky. Would acid or base help?
