Does working in the adult entertainment industry make it harder to adopt?

Postby gwres73 » January 21st, 2014, 2:49 am

I currently work in the adult entertainment industry but I am also working on towards earning my medical degree (D.O.)/ permaculture specialist. I plan on leaving the industry once I reach my goal (I am very driven and alternative health and environmentalism is my absolute passion) but for right now I enjoy what I do and am making very good money in the sex industry. My dream is to adopt many children in the future or at least become a foster parent. Will my past work history hinder my chances of being able to adopt or become a foster parent? Thank you!

Yes it more than likely will---you would not be approved as a foster parent here. The case worker has NOTHING to with the approval process--she doesn't even know the licensed foster parents until she works with them. The background checks and finger prints are run by the state and another organiztion. They don't miss anything--even offenses going back to the teen yrs. It's all disclosed ; even if you don't.
And if you fail to list any charges or offenses and they show up on your background checks they are then all Red Flagged
and you have little to no chance of being approved---they wonder what else you have decided to cover up.

Being a doctor and adopting many children? When would you have time? Most doctors I know work 60-90 hours a week.

If you were working in the industry as a performer, yes, your chances of adopting are small unless you hide the information that you were an actress in porn movies or a stripper. If you were doing other kinds of jobs that supported performances, not a problem at all. For instance, if you were a boom operator, it doesn't matter if you work with a high end studio or low end porno.

Keep in mind that social workers are just as negative towards machinists and factory workers when it comes to adoption applications.

I wouldn't think it would matter once you get your degree and got out of the business. It is a legal legit business, not to say some might not frown upon it, you put yourself through school to better your life. More power to you, shake what the good Lord gave you.

Most adoption agencies, including public ones, want parents with strong values & morals. Most people do not associate the "sex industry" with high moral character.
