If the aerials on a orchid are snapped does that mean its dead?

I have an orchid and it's been going well for nearly a year. I've usually had 2 flowers on it at a time, but one of the flowers died off, then the stalk started to go brown, so i cut that back to the first little possible off shoot. The second flower died and then that stalk started to go brown, so i did the same thing again. Now i've looked at the aerials and they are looking a bit worse for ware. One is snapped and the other is shrivelling up.

is it time to get a new orchid???

No. Your Orchird is fine just those stems have died. If they are brown cut them off. The orchird over time will produce a new flower stem. Under perfect conditions it will produce a new stem in 6/8 months.
