Is it possible to take any safety precautions when sitting close to a 40in TV?

I thought about purchasing a 40in TV to use as both a computer monitor and TV. However, I'll be using the pc 8 hrs per weekday and thought about eyestrain. Are there any preventive measures I can take other than the obvious of taking a break from the monitor? Does anyone have this type of setup and if so, what is your experience?

Firstly, HOLY CRAP, 40 inch monitor. There are protective foils for your monitor, but I doubt they are that big. You can still use the good old measures: - brightness low, a light source like a lamp behind you - a cactus near or on top of the monitor (cacti magically absorb 70-80% of the radiation comming from the monitor) - take pauses every 40-60 minutes and blink as often as if it was winter and you were walking outside - make your wallpaper as dark as possible, solid black is recommended - try not to close the curtains too fast (sunlight), a sudden change in light intensity tires your eye
