what is the difference between a Japanese garden and Chinese garden? I know Japanese gardens use rocks and water to simulate the mountains and oceans of earth, does this also apply to the Chinese gardens?

Chinese is more about symbolization while Japanese is more cultural like trying to mirror the landscape outside of the garden. Japanese use bonsai while China not so much. Japanese also use more artifacts of religion.
Yes Japanese and Chinese gardens use water and rocks to simulate mountains and oceans of earth
