Do all bonsais need to go through dormancy?

Your juniper needs to be outside all year.
Once you bring it inside for more than 2 weeks, it starts going down hill, fast.

If you have freezing temperature where you are, put it on the ground, out of the wind, and place mulch over the pot. If the roots freeze, or burn up in the summer, plant will be effected.

Keep it watered during winter or it will die for sure.

Don't worry about your cousin, he will figure it out.

Now go drink a beer and relax
